HBAA 2010’s chairman takes charity to new heightsThe HBAA is widening the scope of its charitable giving with the introduction of the Chairman’s Charity.
The HBAA has supported Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Campaign since 2003 and has collectively contributed with donations to the cause in excess of £150,000. After a recent review by the Executive Committee on the association’s giving, the Chairman will be allowed to nominate their own charity for the tenure of their role. Monies raised by the association at the annual dinner and other activities will be split 75% between Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Campaign and 25% with the Chairman’s charity.
As 2010’s Chairman, Stephen Usher has nominated Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA). The WNAA costs £1.5 million a year to operate and is supported entirely by voluntary donations with no government or Lottery Funding available.
Since its launch in 2003, WNAA has become the UK’s busiest Air Ambulance and attended over 8500 calls. The service uses an Agusta 109 Helicopter which is staffed with a crew of doctors and paramedics and fully equipped with the latest intensive care facilities on board. Unlike other air ambulances, people can be treated immediately at the scene rather than being transported to hospital as other air ambulances do.
The HBAA is made up of 79 member agents and 194 hotel and venues partners. The premise of the association is to drive best practice in the procurement of accommodation and venues for conferences, training, meetings and events.
Stephen Usher said: “My business, House of Usher, is based in Northamptonshire and I am delighted to be able to help this excellent service that covers the UK’s key arterial routes, M1, M6, M40, M42 and A14. We host key events throughout the year where fundraising takes place and I am particularly looking forward to helping drive awareness and donations at both our annual golf day and our annual dinner”.
