Golf At Goodwood held a rugby themed golf event on Saturday 26 September in celebration of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

England hosted Wales at Twickenham hoping to gain some home advantage in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Both teams in good form, it was a thrilling match of rugby with Wales coming out eventual winners.

To get into the patriotic swing of things, a fully sized rugby post was installed on the 1st tee of The Downs Course with Rugby shaped golf balls also being used. To add to the excitement of the day, a flat screen projector was installed on the covered putting green to show all of the rugby action from Twickenham.

With a 1:30pm shotgun start scheduled, Members were set for an afternoon full of surprises and fun. The weather was fair with a little chill nipping at noses. The field of 30 were eager to get play under way and were out in full patriotic outfits fitting for the occasion.

The format for the golf was Par/Bogey creating the excitement of match play on the course. The scoring was very impressive from the members with eight out of the 30 players either playing to, or beating their handicap. Rick Priest played an absolutely blinder, finishing with a score of +5 to take the win.

As players stated filtering back in from the golf course a member of the Golf At Goodwood Team was on hand down on the first tee with the Rules and Regulations of the Rugby Golf Challenge.

The Challenge was to hit a rugby ball shaped golf ball from roughly 56 yards, over rugby posts whilst teeing off from a designated green. For those who completed the challenge, a six pack of Heineken Lagers and a limited edition Rugby World Cup glass were up for grabs.

In total, there were six winners of the challenge; Dave Porter, Simon Jardine, Steve Fallick, Gonzalo Escalante & Aidan Walls.
